HIGH FLYER from York Horse Sales Wizzi Pippin

A NOVICE course put together by Blenheim designer Eric Winter and British Eventing regional director Chris Shaw tested riders at the Bishop Burton College Horse Trials.

From 120 Novice competitors, only four managed to scrape through in the set time and Section C winner Niki Otterburn headed up a list of riders.

Niki topped Bishop Burton College Novice Section C on board 11-year old mare Wizzi Pippin, with a score of 35.5.

A dressage score of 31.5 put her in sixth place, Niki then went double clear showjumping and attracted four time penalties cross country putting her in first place.

As well as the first place ribbon, Niki was also awarded the Anna Batty Memorial Trophy for the highest placed Novice owner/rider resident in Yorkshire.

She’s a lovely, consistent mare and we now have 19 points, so we only need one more point to go Intermediate.

“We’ve had a good season so far with a 15th placing at Chatsworth and a fifth at Eland Lodge and this is the last run until Hutton-in-the-Forest one star so things are looking good for that.”

Pony Racing Winner - Dene Rose Stormy SeasSky

PONY racing made a welcome return to Yorkshire at the South Durham Hunt Pony Club Race Day at Howe Hills Farm, Mordon.

The seven-race card included the six-furlong Graham and Andrea Wylie Championship Race (138cm and under) and this was won by Cameron Hardie who stayed on well to claim a good victory. Thirteen-year-old Cameron gave his new pony Dene Rose Stormy Seas a great ride, this pony was purchased this year at our January Sales. Well done to all involved in the training of this pony.

YORK HORSE SALES PROUD TO SPONSOR ALISON AND COMET

COMET SHINESComet

The Trailblazers National Championships took place between Wednesday, July 30 and Sunday, August 3 at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, following qualifying classes throughout the UK and Channel Islands.

Alison Brown of Friars Hill Stables, Sinnington, qualified in showjumping, on a horse called Comet she had purchased from York Horse Sales.  Alison and Comet shaved 2.4 seconds off the previous fastest time to win the Senior Trailblazers 75 cm Showjumping championship (first section) in fine style.  An excellent performance amid strong competition in a class of 92.

On the previous day they had been placed second and fourth in the warm up classes and in Sunday’s final class, the Senior Trailblazers 75 cm (second section) finished 14th out of 98 starters in the class.

Alison speaking of Comet, said: “He showed his worth and made himself the most consistent horse over the three days jumping.  All in all for a horse bought out of the sale ring at York, a good weekend was had by all!”

Well done Alison & Comet!
