FAST TRADE FOR FRIESIANS AT YORK
There was a packed ringside at York Livestock Centre for the sale of the entire adult portion of Geoff and Yvonne Marshall’s unregistered non recorded herd. The cattle from Spaunton, near Pickering, were of predominantly Friesian type from a hard moorland farm, but buyers had spotted their potential to improve and they were keenly contested in the ring. Top price was 1,800gs, paid by R.W.Wood & Co, Stillington for a third calf daughter of Dovea Sem. At 1,750gs T.Sedgewick & Sons, Sedgefield, Co Durhamtook a third calver by Tittenser Hylke.
The sale also included a group of fresh and close to calving cows and heifers from C.T.Stonehouse & Son’s (Brawby, Malton) Chiplodge herd, which is also being dispersed as the cattle come to profit. They produced the day’s top price of 1,900gs for Chiplodge Nan Damaris 8, a freshly calved heifer by Moet Nansen. C.Lupton, Selby was the purchaser. Also selling were fresh heifers from the Autumn, Millons and Winton herds. Top price in this section was 1,800gs paid by W.B.Ritchie Farms Ltd for Millons Delight 25, a Roylane Jordan daughter from David Barnes, who sold the milking portion of his herd atYorklast summer.
